Using Essential Oils to Stay Sane During the Holidays

This week’s posts are going to concentrate on different ways essential oils can help us keep our balance during stressful times like the holidays. The month of December is traditionally a time when we attend many holiday parties–be they work related or with family and friends. It is known that this is a very stressful time for most folks. We suffer from everything from gasstric upset from overeating and too much drinking, to emotional upsets over he said/she said scenarios. Financial stress also adds an additional burden and then there is the stress of decorating, entertaining and cleaning up, gifts–buying, wraping and giving.
How can essential oils help us through these often difficult times? Essential oils, especially those high in terpenes can cross the blood-brain barrier. They affect the limbic system which is the gate to where emotional traumas are stored and essential oils can lift up our spirits and connect us spiritually to our Higher Power. On the physical level, essential oils can quiet digestive upsets, soothe aching muscles, relieve headaches, and keep our immune systems healthy to withstand physical and emotional stresses.
