Using Essential Oils for Great Skin Care

We know that many of our cosmetics are not good for us since they contain many petrochemicals, so how can essential oils help us to have a really good complexion? First step is is to throw away your cosmetics–unless they are completely natural. Many essential oils are actually very good for the skin but need to be diluted for the best effect. Which oils should we use? for the epidermis, look at the top of a plant–the flower or the fruit. Oils good for skin care include orange, bergamot, jasmine, neroli and lavender. These oils seem to be more effective for acute conditions or those concerns that have recently appeared.
What about the middle layer of the skin–the dermis. This layer responds well to essential oils extracted from the leaves and foliage of a plant. Examples include geranium, rosemary and tea tree. These oils are good for reducing inflammation, balancing and maintaining skin healing.
Now for the deeper structures in skin we would look at oils that are extracted from the roots, resins and woods. Some suggestions include sandalwood, cedarwood, frankincense and myrrh. These essential oils provide stability and strength to the subcutaneous layer. Often chronic conditions respond well to these oils and can strengthen the skin from deeper layers. These are some of the oils suggested for mature skin or damaged skin.
