Patchouly Essential Oil–Legend Has It That It Represents Money and Wealth

The fragrance of pachouly or pachouli essential oil I must admit is not one of my most favorite oils. It’s a little too musky for my taste. However, legend has it that he who possesses pachouly is considered wealthy. For centuries it has been part of the traditional systems of medicine in Malysia, China and Japan. it was used to prevent the spread of fevers and epidemics and was thought to strengthen the immune system. It is still used in that part of the world as a remedy for snake and insect bites.
Pachouly is a perennial bushy herb. It has a sturdy, hairy stem with large fragrant furry leaves and white flowers that are tinged with a bit of purple. As for its fragrance, I find people either can’t get enough of it or are repelled by it. Science has shown it to be a relaxant, digestive aid, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial oil. It prevents wrinkles, chapped skin and relieves itching. It is used today for a wide variety of dermal disorders. It is good for rejuvenating the skin when it is cracked and sore and is therefore helpful for eczema.
Rich and musky, patchouly is a relaxing aphrodisiac similar in action to jasmine and ylang ylang. For emotional healing, pachouly is used to encourage farsightedness, rapport, invigoration, reasonableness, astuteness and stimulation. The fragrance helps one to have a sense of the sacredness of life.
