In yesterday’s post, I introduced the concept of blending single oils for a purpose. Today we want to look at blending for spiritual awareness. You are probably looking at oils that have been known to lift us up spiritually like frankincense, myrrh, spikenard, galbanum, and onycha. These oils have been particularly noted in the Old Testament as “holy” oils. Many other plants were named in the scriptures but not necessarily designated as “holy” like balsam, cedarwood, cypress and hyssop. So choose the single oils you would like to work with, then let’s look at their chemistry.
1. Identify the purpose: spiritual awareness
2. balance the chemistry. for example if your volume is 10 drops, 5-6 drops will be from an oil high in phenols or ketones, 2-4 drops will be from an oil high in monoterpenes and only 1-2 drops of your blend will be from oils high in sesquiterpenes.
3. Read about the oils you have chosen. For example, let’s say you want to work with frankincense, clove (another ancient oil but not mentioned in the Scritpures) and cedarwood. Look at their chemistries. Frankincense can be as much as 77% monoterpenes with 8% sesquiterpenes, clove has 80% phenols and cedarwood is 98% sesquiterpenes. Choosing these 3 oils, you can use 5 drops of clove, 4 drops of frankincense and 1 drop of cedarwood.
Will your blend achieve the goal of spiritual awareness? that is for you to determine–does it lift you up to a spiritual place and put you in contact with your Higher Power? More on this subject in the next post.
