Once you have your essential oil blend put together (described in Part 1), how will you use it? Diffuse it? Apply it to the skin? Dilute it to rub the whole body? All of these ways are acceptable when opening up to spiritual awareness.
Let’s look first at diffusers. There are many on the market but the best ones I have found use cold air to push the oil through a glass diffuser that breaks the oil into micro droplets that hang in the air. Others use water vapor. If using the glass diffuser, place your oil in the oil well and set the timer for 15 minutes at a time. Young Living Essential Oils has several models available.
If you want to “anoint” your body with the oil blend, make sure you are not using oils that are too high in caustic compounds like aldehydes which can burn the skin. For example the aldehyde content of cinnamon or cassia. Many times the monoterpene content of one of the other ingredients will “squelch” the aldehyde or phenol content of another oil and decrease the irritation to skin.
Blending is not only scientific but is an art. Allow your nose to be your guide. Putting 3-5 oils together that look balanced on paper may actually not smell very nice and if it doesn’t smell good–will you actually use it a second time?
