How Do You Do the Laying-On of Hands with Essential Oils?
Oct 16th, 2008 by lindasmith
Prayer, touching and anointing with therapeutic healing oils was a common practice among the early Christian healers. But what exactly is happening when we extend our hands in faith to heal others? And what happens when we use a therapeutic or medicinal grade essential oil on our hands as we touch one another in faith?
There are basically four steps in performing the simple form of the Laying-On of Hands: centering, intention, assessment (taking in information) and treatment (doing something).
It is important to prepare the person who is to receive healing so get permission to touch, tell the person what you will be doing, and encourage feedback as you progress. Ask if they have any allergies to any known substances before using an essential oil.
As you begin your healing work, put a few drops of your chosen oil in the palms of your hands. I especially like to use frankincense for this work. Other choices might include biblical oils like myrrh, cedarwood, hyssop, spikenard, Rose of Sharon, galbanum, sandalwood (aloes), and balsam. Always use a therapeutic oil—synthetic oils carry no life within them. Only therapeutic oils which are unadulterated carry a vibrational frequency that is healing. I always like to let the person I am working with smell the fragrance of the oils as well.
Centering and Intention are your interior preparation for doing the healing work.
Assessment is determining what to do; it is taking in information and being open to hear.
Treatment is being open to the power of God flowing through your hands and your heart. It is your being a channel, a conduit, or facilitator for the flow of divine energy.

For using the healing essential oil of our choice when laying on hands, would you recommend that we dilute it in a base oil or use the pure essential oil alone?
