Fragrance and Memory–The Most Faithful of Our Senses
Nov 13th, 2008 by lindasmith
We have millions of olfactory cells that are directly hot-wired into the limbic system of the brain. That’s where emotional memories are stored. Wow! That means the smells of our childhood still remain within as well as all the memories of smells we have ever smelled! Think about it–essential oils which are potent fragrances can rubber-band us back to memories we though long forgotten. Why is that important? Because essential oils can help you let go of emotional traumas.
How Can Essential Oils Help You?
Fragrance is as very individual thing–what is helpful for one person may be repugnant to another. Here are some general tips:
- For anxiety and worry, choose oils that settle the mind and are gounding and comforting
- For stress, choose oils that are relaxing, calming or sedative
- For Depression, choose oils that are nourishing to the nerves, energizing and balancing–you want any oils that are stimulating.
