Essential Oils for Aching and Stiff Joints
Nov 7th, 2008 by lindasmith
Now that the weather is turning cold and blustery, many are starting to notice morning stiffness, even an achyness developing. We are so susceptible to bodily aches and pains at change of season. Rather than turning to over-the-counter drugs which can have side effects, essential oils can definitely help relieve these discomforts.
Wintergreen, peppermint, nutmeg, German chamomile, clove, helichrysum, Idaho balsam fir, white fir, pine, Eucalyptus globulus, and even the ancient oils of frankincense and myrrh have been found to be very helpful in relieving aches and pains.
Dilute 8-10 drops of the the essential oil of choice in a teaspoon of a carrier oil like almond oil or a good massage oil. I like to warm the vegetable oil first which aids in its absorption. Any of the above essential oils can also be used “neat” that is, undiluted directly on the body. No need to warm the essential oil though. You will be surprised as how quickly the essential oils are taken into the body and relieve joint stiffness. Nature provides so many different remedies for us that work!
