Essential Oils Can Aid Arthritis Sufferers
May 13th, 2009 by lindasmith
What is arthritis? It’s not just an “old person’s disease.” Osteoarthritis involves the breakdown of the cartilage that forms a cushion between two joints. And rheumatoid arthritis is caused from a swelling and inflammation of the synovial membrane which is the lining of the joint. These can strike at any age although as we age, we become more prone to developing arthritis because of our diets and sedentary lifestyles. Arthritis can often affect the lower back and sacroiliac joints. Arthritis of the spine can lead to lowe back pain and stiffness, which is typically worse in the morning–”the creaky bone syndrome” as we start our day. These conditions usually begin the second and third decades of life and progress as we age.
How Can Essential Oils Relieve Joint Discomfort?
Many essential oils are pain relieving. Some are anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and they can detoxify and relax. These properties are exactly what is needed for arthritis. I suggest wintergreen, nutmeg, clove, German Chamomile, helichrysum, Idaho Balsam fir, Douglas fir, white fir, spruce, pine cypress, peppermint, vetiver, marjoram, rosemary CT cineole, Eucalyptus citriodora, basil, oregano, lemongrass, Idaho tansy, black pepper, elemi, Palo Santo or lavender. You can also try blends like PanAway, Relieve It, Aroma Siez, or Peace and Calming. Just topically dilute 50-50 and apply to the affected area or joint 1-3 times daily as needed.
