Creating “Oils of Gladness” and “Oils of Joy” Today
Oct 15th, 2008 by lindasmith
Frankincense, sandalwood, myrrh, and cassia were all considered “oils of gladness” in the Biblical Times since they have an emotional impact that is positive and uplifting. Today, oils helpful for protecting one’s space include: White Angelica, Exodus II, juniper, lavender, cedarwood, eucalyptus, hyssop, Sacred Mountain, rosemary, rose, angelica, geranium, and pine.
To set an intention and fill your space with positive energy, you can use essential oils such as bergamot, cedarwood, lavender, lemon, orange, neroli, rose, rosewood, or vetiver.
What follows is a simple example of the elements of an anointing ritual. Allow your own creativity to guide you as you create sacred anointing rituals.
Ritual
· Create an “altar” on which you place objects that are sacred for you on your spiritual journey. Light a candle if desired.
· Begin by quieting yourself. Center in God’s Light and ask the Spirit to be present and to guide you in this anointing of yourself and your healing space. Ask your guardian angels to be present and to assist in this holy anointing.
· Holding the oil you have selected, call upon Spirit to bless this oil and to make it sacred for this anointing.
· Now opening the oil, place a drop of oil in your palm and rub your hands together. Inhale its fragrance allowing the oil’s frequency to touch every cell of your body. Give thanks for the gift of this healing oil.
· Now, bless your own body with this blessed oil in however the Spirit directs you—brow, hands, feet, energy centers (chakras), aura or your whole body.
· As a vessel of God’s healing, now sprinkle this holy anointing oil on your altar and the room. (Be careful if you are using an oil with a vegetable base—it will leave a grease spot.)
· Let this be an oil of gladness for all those who receive healing in this space. Give thanks for the many blessings you are receiving.
· When you are ready, blow out the candle and end your meditation.
