Clove Oil–From the Orient, A Sign of Great Wealth

When I think of cloves, I recall my mother putting cloves on the top of a ham along with pineapple! It gave such a delicious spicy taste to the suculent meat. Tincture of cloves on the other hand has been used for centuries for skin infections like scabvies and athlete’s foot, for digestive upsets, intestinal parasites and particularly for toothaches. One of my favorite Medieval teachers–Hildegard of Bingen–found it to be most warming. She recommended it for a number of different maladies.
In the Orient, cloves has been associated with great abundance. Those who possessed it were considered wealthy. Today it is viewed as having anti-aging, antitumoral, antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, analgesic and anesthetic qualities, antioxidant, anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, anti-covulsant and anti-worms properties. In fact, it is the highest antioxidant oil ever measured. No wonder its good for anti-aging.
Clove can assist in awakening the senses. it gives us the confidence we need to be unafraid. The emotional message is to move forward on your path, make things happen, achieve as much as your spirit can without harming others.
The fragrance discourages inhibiting thoughts and makes it easier to weather the storms of life. One word of caution, clove oil is high in a compound called eugenol which is a phenol making this a very potent oil. Until you know how your skin will react, I recommend diluting this oil 75-25 first.
