Change of Season Brings Sore Throats–Can Essential Oils Help?

Anytime there is a change of season, our immune systems become compromised and those nasty germs that are always with us take advantage of the situation. We get colds, sore throats and even are susceptible to the flu. Most people run to the local pharmacy to buy the over-the-counter drugs. Have you noticed the increase in TV commercials for sore throats and colds lately? There are natural alteernatives that works much better than these drugs which have numerous side effects. Want to know what I recommend?
For sore throats, the best remedies are essential oils you might be surprised at–cinnamon, clove and oregano. All three of these oils are highly antimicrobial and antiseptic. They are antibacterial and antiviral and defintely anti-infectious. Now I probably would not mix these three together, but the clove and cinnamon go well together with lemon, eucalyptus and rosemary which are the ingredients in Young Living’s Thieves essential oil blend. At the first sign of a sore throat, I am putting one to two drops of Thieves oil blend in a half cup of warm water to gargle. The company has realized the fighting power of this blend and have now created throat lozenges, mouthwash, toothpaste, wipes, spray, and a whole host of cleaning products.
Here is a sore throat blend you might want to try that does not have the taste of cinnamon and clove.
- 2 drops thyme
- 2 drops cypress
- 1 drop Eucalyptus radiata
- 1 drop peppermint
- 1 drop myrrh
And for more fighting power, this sore throat blend includes both cinnamon and oregano:
- 1 drop cinnamon
- 6 drops lavender
- 2 drops oregano
These blends can be rubbed on the throat area, or diluted in a half glass of warm salt water for a gargle.
